South Dakota Arrest Records
The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) Identification Department of South Dakota serves as the State’s central repository for criminal records. It is responsible for processing fingerprint-based background checks including South Dakota Arrest Records. By state law, any person has the right to request criminal history information. A Computerized Criminal History (CCH) system is also available to criminal justice entities 24 hours daily via telecommunication.
The public can also access criminal history information at the DCI but only fingerprint-based checks are offered. The DCI provides free fingerprint kit which must be used by the applicant and the official authorization and release form must be completely filled out and signed. The service fee is $24 per check. Federal charges, juvenile offenses, sealed records, minor traffic violations or out-of-state information are not included in the search. The processing time by the DCI is not readily known.
