The New Jersey central repository of criminal records is housed at the State Bureau of Identification (SBI). This unit belongs to the New Jersey State Police (NJSP) Department and is responsible for receiving, verifying, coding, processing and disseminating all criminal record information to criminal justice agencies and non-criminal justice agencies for their respective functional purpose in criminal, licensing and employment operation. Government, business and citizens, too, can obtain New Jersey Arrest Records from this office.
New Jersey Arrest Records are processed and maintained at the Criminal Records Unit of the CJRB (Criminal Justice Records Bureau), a section of the Identification and Information Technology Division. The unit is also tasked with documenting all state police investigation and criminal-related reports. Any individual can request a copy of his/her own records but only authorized entities are permitted those of others. In getting personal criminal records, the applicant must get fingerprinted at an authorized live-scan site, submit the official form and pay $41. Name-based lookups are also available at $18 per search.
