The Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) of Montana maintains the central database of the state’s criminal records and fingerprints. It is under the charge of the Montana Department of Justice and is also responsible for keeping the state’s Sex Offender Registry as well as its Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN). Arrest documentation of this State is updated on a daily basis from reports provided by the various criminal justice agencies. Montana Arrest Records can be requested by phone, mail or fax in all 56 districts of the state. With the exception of 3 counties, a signed release is not required.
Both name and fingerprint-based searches are available. The public are can run name-based lookups through an online system for $11.50 per search. Registered users such as authorized employment agencies can pay a monthly subscription and enjoy unlimited access. Requests by mail for both name-based and fingerprint-based applications cost $10 per search. Information that is protected by privacy laws or sealed or expunged by the courts will be withheld by the DCI.
