Leduc RCMP officers made a choice not to pursue a speeding driver who had reached speeds of up to 195 km/h and drove between two vehicles on a two-lane highway. The federal police force received a request for assistance from Ponoka sheriffs, who had tried and failed to apprehend the driver. Sheriffs did not pursue the suspect vehicle, but chose to let the driver go and inform the RCMP instead. The choice not to engage in a high-speed pursuit was likely the safer one in this instance, since the driver who was arrested was already a danger to others by his actions.
